  • From the diversity of his influences, Hassan Hajjaj, an Anglo-Moroccan artist, has created a form of artistic crossbreeding, a whimsical and eccentric universe that engages in a dialogue between tradition and modernity, culture and pop culture. Known for his ultra-colorful portraits on the border between documentary practice and fashion photography, he also combines African loincloths, cans, diverted logos or monograms in his compositions. He thus develops a kind of visual reappropriation of globalized consumer products and offers a critical interpretation of oriental exoticism. Simply titled Hassan Hajjaj , this book published on the occasion of the retrospective dedicated to him by the MEP in September 2019, is the first major monograph devoted to his work. It includes all the series that made him famous as well as his previously unpublished black and white work.
