  • Conceived as a "bio-monograph", this catalogue offers a unique insight into the life and the work of French artist, sculptor and ceramicist Valentine Schlegel. It presents an important iconography, archives and texts of the sculptor and Schlegel specialist, Hélène Bertin. \n \nValentine Schlegel has developed his daily artistic practice, constantly evolving, between Paris and Sète. Like a Swiss army knife, she ended up mastering several techniques, producing everyday objects with sculptural forms, such as wooden cutlery, ceramic vases, leather bags and fireplaces in plaster. Designed without inherent hierarchy, and often in collaboration with the friends of the artist, this body of work is composed of objects of sizes and of various uses, from the fantastic to the everyday. Schlegel also created many architectural plaster elements intended for the interior of houses. Because of their immovable character, these sculptures of life daily life are also the reason why Schlegel's work has remained little known. If it were not aimed only at the world of art exhibitions Through her work, she nevertheless participated in historical events in Museum of Decorative Arts at a time when the Pompidou Center did not exist. \n \nToday, through Schlegel's practice, this publication, conceived as a "bio-monograph" dedicated to Valentine Schlegel, seeks to highlight light of other art addresses. With iconography and archives unpublished, biographical notes written by Hélène Bertin which allow the reader to better understand Schlegel and his approach, this monograph by reference documents for the first time all the chimneys that Valentine Schlegel made for private individuals - around a hundred from 1959 to 2002. The Other aspects of his work are also discussed in order to understand his entire practice, closely linked to his way of life, where questions of production autonomy and friendship are central. \n \n
