I am an American
Jean dreams of America. Jane fantasizes about France. Little Jeannie wants a
new family. Jean is a writer, professional procrastinator, always on
the point of leaving Paris to live the real life, the one where he is American. A
evening, he comes across Jane, an American who has dreamed of the
France. This slightly loser Frenchman enchants him, a sublime parenthesis opens in
their existences, at the exact junction of their imaginations. Nine months
Later, Jeannie is born on American soil. "I am an American" is a
choral narrative, interweaving the dreams, fantasies, and futures of these three
people. With a drawing of immense mastery and a staging as well
specifies that inventive, Guillaume Chauchat examines the American dream in his own way,
its bright side, that of fantasy, of youthful illusions and games
of children. We do not know if America really exists anywhere other than in the cinema, on
the canvases where actors' kisses are projected. But Guillaume Chauchat
carries with him, in him, and takes us into a long lucid dream, playing under
our eyes with a material of which we do not know if it is dream or truth. And
