Large canvases made from theatre sets from the Left series
Behind, initiated in 2004, represents a real fight for the artist Jim Shaw
against the propaganda excesses of American society, and more
particularly against political, religious and economic ideologies
that have underpinned the rise of neoliberalism. To respond to this, the artist develops
a rich critical iconography made up of borrowings and singular rereadings of
the history of art, media, and images of consumer society.
The Left Behind series was the subject of a major exhibition in the nave of the CAPC
Museum of Contemporary Art in Bordeaux in May 2010. Through sumptuous
illustrations, unpublished texts by Jim Shaw and a set of rich
contributions, this box set, composed of three books, offers a broad overview of
this cycle of paintings and will enlighten the reader on one work at a time
