June - Shot largely on the Greek island of Hydra, the images in this
publication reimagines a child's gaze that still has an intact vision of the
world. In trying to capture the unspoiled aspect of their environment, the
artist couple found a new way of working that was inspired
by the things their daughter pointed out during their walks through
the island. \n \nIt led photographer van Drimmelen to focus on
small and intimate details such as an animal shape formed by a wire
metal, debris they found on the beach. Or the face they have
encountered in the deteriorating wall of a deserted hotel in an empty bay of
the island. The photographs were then painted by Krabbé to add a
second supernatural layer. The unexpected combination of painting and photo,
sometimes with poems by Krabbé, glued directly to the surface. \n \nThey
bring hybrid images that hint at a “third person,”
composed of the collaborative vision of two artists. The images are altered
by going back and forth in a process of mutual trust;
pushing aside images of the other on the path and welcoming the unexpected. For
them, doing this work is a real journey into the innocence of the vision of
child's world.
