  • Masako Tomiya is a photographer from the Aomori region in northern Japan. Japan. She has been living in Tokyo for years, and one day she received the news that his sister and sister-in-law, who live near his hometown, were all two speakers. This news inspired Tomiya to create his Kito series, a reflection on identity, family, transmission and the passing of time. \n \n"Kito" means "return home" in Japanese. Inverted, "toki" takes a whole another meaning: "time". In his poetic series, Tomiya plays with this double meaning. His thoughtful photographic journey is accompanied by a subtle meditation on nature and its seasonal transformation, as well as a representation of human life through women. Tomiya stages self-portraits and captures the daily life of his mother, sisters and newborns, in order to explore how his sense of belonging has changed with the time. \n \nI have lived my life asking myself \n"What am I? What is this world?" \nFor a long time I wandered without an answer, and even before I found one realize, I was older. \nHad time passed, or was it just than a dream resembling a memory? \nThis story transcends time, the meaning and the self \nby attacking the idea of "myself".
