The Apartment
The Apartment
Present at MAMCO since the institution opened to the public, L'Appartement
is a special space in the museum's route. It is the
reconstruction of Ghislain Mollet-Viéville's apartment originally located at
26 rue Beaubourg in Paris. Occupied and developed by the latter from 1975 to 1991,
This place of life was also a place of exchange and exhibition of works
precisely chosen. Minimal and conceptual art had a place there
essential not just through works but also as a form of life.
Now an integral part of the MAMCO collection, L'Appartement offers,
among others, pieces by Donald Judd, Carl Andre, Claude Rutault, Art &
Language, Joseph Kosuth, Lawrence Weiner and André Cadere. This book is the
detailed presentation through an essay by Patricia Falguières, an interview
with Ghislain Mollet-Viéville and a study of each work by Thierry Davila.
It also shows how collecting means inventing a singular type of
art attendance.
