The color of things
Simon, a slightly chubby 14-year-old English boy, is constantly the object
of mockery from the young people in his neighborhood, and he is recruited to
all sorts of chores. One day he goes shopping for a fortune teller
fortune telling, this one reveals to him who the winners of the
prestigious Royal Ascot horse race. Simon then secretly bets
all his father's savings on a single horse, and wins more than 16
million pounds. But when he returns home, Simon finds his mother in the
coma and the police tell him that his father has disappeared. Being a minor, Simon does not
cannot cash in his betting slip. To do this, and to find out what
happened to his mother, he absolutely must find his father. At the end of a
adventure full of twists and turns and surprises, Simon, the eternal loser,
will become a very resourceful kid.
The Color of Things by Swiss author Martin Panchaud shakes up habits
comic book readers; the book is entirely
drawn in a bird's eye view without perspective and all the characters are
represented as circles of color. The color of things oscillates
between comedy and thriller with a surprising graphic technique, mixing
architecture, infographics and pictograms galore, which make this novel very
graphic an amazing and captivating book.
