The Herd
The Herd
Petra, Ulla and Denise all live together in a shared apartment
assumed and overall balanced disharmony; each of them is distinguished by
his original personality, his desire to break away from the codes and free himself from
numerous societal injunctions imposed on them, with, as master
word, independence. Petra is a bodybuilder, and her life is all about protein,
muscle and appearance; Ulla, an archaeologist, literally looks like a giantess,
frankly voluminous and a head taller than all the others; Denise, she,
teaches yoga but also sells the venom extracted from his serpent arm,
considered a miracle beauty lotion. Concepts such as the couple, the
motherhood, family, seem far from their concerns. But
A few streets away, in an apartment transformed into a veritable shambles, live
three children abandoned by their mother and left to fend for themselves. When the
three women will meet the children, their reactions and feelings,
mixtures of worry, concern and awkwardness, will slowly evolve,
to the point of giving birth to strong and unique bonds with the young siblings.
In La Harde, Marijpol takes us on a journey through a whimsical and futuristic society,
mirror of ours, and in the process, constructs a kind of comedy
dramatic that evokes the gentleness and benevolence of Kore-eda's universe,
but above all, questions and explores the concept of norm, whether it applies to
body, femininity, couple or family. Brilliant!
