The common by use
The common by use
Living and creating have always had a close relationship. Their encounter
draws a horizon of actions where art and everyday life constitute a time
essential to social transformation, suggesting, in the development of
alternative forms and ways of living, the possibility of emancipation
concrete. If this idea has been largely undermined by its recovery
systematic in the circuits of “creative” capitalism, the practices which
combine artistic creation, collective housing and social commitment find
new fields of expression today. This is the case of the collectives La
Diversion in Marseille and Bermuda shorts in Sergy, whose members devote a part
consequent of their time to build and take care of their common place of
life and work. Through participant observation of these construction sites
collectives, this work reports on the movements generated by the activity of
everyday manufacturing on how to compose the common and make
the experience of art. Preface by Laurent Thévenot
