THE NECROMANCHIAN
THE NECROMANCHIAN
Hans Dubonheur and John Morose are artists, and have known each other forever.
But if Dubonheur and his cat paintings enjoyed resounding success,
The art world continues to leave Morose at its doors. Unable to create,
Morose tirelessly hides behind the idea that he lacks THE right one
brush, THE right color… and refuses to see that he is above all paralyzed by
his doubts. But one day, his favorite supply store is replaced by
a pet shop: what a disarray! Instead of the brush that would have everything
changed — for sure — Morose returns home with, in his arms, an adorable
little dog… In his little decrepit pavilion, in the shadow of the overwhelming
house-studio of his former friend from the Beaux-Arts, Morose then meets the
devoted gaze of his new companion, and marvels: could fate have
finally decided to reshuffle his cards? After "Bob and Sally are friends", "
Papayou” and “Micro Zouzou among the maxi-zinzins” (with Léon Maret), Matthias
Arégui continues to celebrate friendship by drawing on the codes of manga as much
than in his memories of 60 million friends. He navigates freely between the
registers, makes us laugh (drawing a tear from us without us noticing),
to speak to us this time, with sincerity, about the condition of an artist: to create
to begin a dialogue with the world, while being crushed by the idea that
No one, perhaps, will answer... Without ever losing his humor, with a
unparalleled talent for staging tenderness, Matthias Arégui signs here
his richest and most accomplished book. A dog, cats, doubts — and a
ghost, obviously: The Necromancer is a story full of light, too
surprising as it is funny, as elaborate as it is poignant: the remarkable work of a
artist who found his language.
