Shell service across the Sahara
Shell service across the Sahara
Most of the time, Philippe Weisbecker's drawings document series
of objects or architectures. Often, these series are recorded in old
school notebooks or sketchbooks. This new facsimile is no exception to the rule
: administrative buildings, trucks, mosques and pumps inhabit a desert of
paper with enigmatic logic. For this new work, the author was inspired
of a “Guide to Automobile and Air Tourism in the Sahara”, intended for a
wealthy clientele eager for adventure. The opportunity for Weisbecker to immerse himself
in the environments that were described to him when he was a child, by his
father who lived there in the 1930s.
