  • When he moved to Paris in 1905 to take up the post of secretary particular of Auguste Rodin, Rainer Maria Rilke is still far from imagining how much this city, this country, its culture and its language will permeate his work. Reader of Baudelaire, Balzac, Verlaine, and translator, among others, of Mallarmé and Louise Labbé, Rilke will not fail to write (between 1922 and 1926) more than four hundred poems in French, including this collection entitled Windows, which would not appear until the day after his death. And what deeper choice that this object at first sight banal, but which turns out to be an opening and passage between outside and inside (and vice versa), invitation to light and night, place of waiting and hope, threshold of dream, of meditation, of contemplation. A ideal space that could not fail to be one of the sources of the writing of Rainer Maria Rilke.
