  • Lick Of Tongue, Rub Of Finger, On Soft Wound - Keisha Scarville spent a much of his life tracing the travel routes between the Caribbean and America in order to study his own lineage. Seeking to understand how notions of belonging and identity are formed and structured, its image practice visualizes the latent narratives inscribed in the thresholds of the memory across generations. \n \nThis first publication of Scarville presents itself as a sprawling and hypnotic visual essay, interweaving evocatively the artist's striking black and white photographs with archive images, book passages, collages, texts personal and film stills. Between practice and archives, Scarville uses the form of the artist's book to reflect on what it means to create new genealogies by disrupting conventional and linear histories. The result is a journey through a multiplicity of personal and historical accounts of the black diaspora. With this book, Scarville reflects on a process of becoming shaped by the diasporic imagination of Black people across the world. \n \nAccompanied by a text by the poet and author Harmony Holiday.
