From the bedroom to social networks

The notion of intimacy has gradually changed since the 18th century, as many pieces of decorative art and design, works of art and design, reveal to us art or even images and everyday objects. All speak of our ways of live and, even more, their evolution. Through the contributions of eighteen historians, art historians and sociologists, and thanks to a iconography of great diversity, this work bears witness to the way in which the bedroom or rest furniture, as well as objects related to the bath, convenience, beauty and sexuality have been transformed by this evolution. Instruments serving a desire for isolation or, on the contrary, for living together, they invite us to reflect on this question: is the intimate has become a tyranny, in a society that is too narcissistic and forgets the thing public, or is it threatened by the many recent upheavals? which we are confronted with - first and foremost the place taken by new technologies?
