Loie Fuller
Loie Fuller
Of American origin, Loïe Fuller (1862-1928) must be considered one of
pioneers of modern dance. Creator of serpentine dance, made of
movements of sails and lights, she settled in Paris and found herself
engaged at the Folies Bergère at the end of the 19th century. She will soon arouse
the boundless admiration of Nadar, Mélies, Toulouse-Lautrec, Mallarmé,
Rodenbach or Camille Flammarion… From this avant-garde dancer, who is
being at the origin of modern performances, Auguste Rodin could say: "All
the cities she visited and Paris owe her the most emotions
pure, she has awakened the superb antiquity. Her talent will always be imitated
now and its creation will be taken up again always because it has sown and effects and
lighting and staging, all things which will be studied
forever. »
