Beneath the everyday photographs of food banks, punks, amusement arcades, swingers clubs, shelters and new homes, Richmond uncovers a growing malaise in her subjects: a listless microcosm of post-austerity, post-Brexit Britain. Love Bites allows these tensions to simmer on the surface: food poverty, isolation, business decline, housing insecurity, homelessness, unfulfilled desire and nostalgia mingle against the wide, overcast skies of the English Channel and its flat, sprawling coastline. \n \nPart of a long line of British photographers who blend poetry and lyricism with social documentary projects, Richmond uses a delicate colour palette and sympathetic lens to capture the everyday realities of isolation and desire in this corner of southwest England.
