Metal, devil in music
Metal, devil in music
The catalog of the first exhibition dedicated to Metal music in France,
from April 5 to September 29, 2024 at the Philharmonie de Paris For fifty years,
Metal resists all its changes. Decade after decade, it conquers
new audiences and reinvents itself, drawing on both popular art and
classic aesthetics. The first exhibition dedicated to the genre in France, Metal,
Diabolus in Musica takes over the walls of the Philharmonie de Paris from April to
September 2024 and draws up a documented picture of this movement, where dialogue takes place
music, popular culture, anthropological and artistic visions. Backwards
caricatures to which metal is often reduced, the exhibition explores its
codes and the richness of its myths. Extension of the exhibition but also and
above all a reference work on a music with many facets, this
richly illustrated and carefully produced catalog (marbling, cover
textured and metallic iron, 8-page leaflet) summons around the commissioners
from the exhibition of specialists and big names of the scene: Robert Trujillo
(Metallica), Max Cavalera (Soulfly), Seth Anton (Septicflesh), Nergal
(Behemoth), Stéphane Buriez (Loudblast), illustrator Eliran Kantor, the
artists Élodie Lesourd and Chloé Trujillo and comic book author Damien
MacDonald; as well as sociologists Deena Weinstein and Gérôme Guibert, the
PhD student in modern literature Sixtine Audebert or the director of collections
from Hard Rock Café, Chase McCue. Afterword by Mario Duplantier (Gojira).
