A society slowly collapses in the face of a shortage of metax, a mysterious
buried minerals that once brought them economic growth. The landscapes,
made lunar by the scars caused by the incessant mining excavations
are the scene of a series of tragedies: terrorist attacks against the
kingdom, secret executions and a strange virus leaving stars in
the eyes of the sick... While the engineer in charge of extracting the
Metax is desperately trying to find new leads, the henchman of the
king pulls strings to serve the greed of the court and the rebels attempt
to best protect their secret. Inspired by ancient myths, Antoine Cossé
constructs his story like a fable to finally tip into the
science fiction. It explores the idea of a hero caught in the middle of
mechanisms of a society whose cogs are seized up and which is itself a
essential link in the chain. With its compositions and its cutting
cinematographic, Métax transports us into a suffocating universe where
winding roads never seem to lead anywhere. This atmosphere is
accentuated by a narration full of subtleties and a “sound” atmosphere
graphically very strong, until the arrival of color, which emerges in a
moment of apotheosis and deliverance. Métax is a grandiose, profound and
poetic, an exploration of greed, its consequences and the
possibility of escaping him.
