Milan 1963/1973
Milan 1963: the economic boom quickens the city's pulse. Carla Cerati
records the changes in progress: from the central station, the emigrants
disperse to the suburbs. New neighborhoods and new habits
appear. Milan becomes the capital of consumption, with its large
stores that preach another way of life. But there is also the city that
practices the immutable ritual of La Scala, and a new bourgeoisie represented
at inaugurations and cocktail parties. Then comes the big political season,
with student demonstrations and workers leaving factories to
protest. Carla Cerati's photographs then take a more
social and political. The burial of Roberto Franceschi in 1973 marks the end
of a period of fervor that has become legendary. Carla Cerati was one of them, through her
photographs, one of the main witnesses.
