  • Born in 1977 in Oradea (Romania), Mircea Cantor lives and works “on Earth”. He first studied at the University of Art and Aesthetics in Cluj-Napoca and then turned to the Nantes School of Fine Arts in 1999. From the outset, his thoughts engage through different mediums: videos, installations, photographs, drawings, performances, sculptures, of which the monograph which will be published will attempt to report comprehensively. Mircea Cantor calls himself an artist of the world, a world without borders, and wishes to highlight the faults and human dysfunctions through the prism of our society contemporary. Poetic and allegorical, his entire work is characterized by this ability to deal with complex subjects but always in an aesthetic suspended between reality and chimera. Mircea Cantor is obsessed with motif. The appearance of forms, their temporality and their force of persistence retinal are also part of the finalities expected by the artist for his works. He plays with our traditions, criticizes the face of the world, politics, the phenomenon of globalization, history, but remains focused on the human aspirations, closely observing our behaviors and our flaws. Anchored in its time, it reveals its scars, its absurdities as well as the beauty of our world. Questioning the human essence is essential. Mircea Cantor wishes to deliver a symbolic work by drawing inspiration from various fields of knowledge in order to give meaning to human existence. The foundations of its work could be summed up in several words: tradition, humility, aesthetics, independence, rigor and morality. This book is bilingual French/English.
