  • Often considered marginal, locked in the aesthetic closets of In the history of the arts, Pierre Molinier is nevertheless an important figure recognized in France and abroad. Originally from Agen and having lived all his life in Bordeaux, the Frac Nouvelle-Aquitaine MÉCA is dedicating an exhibition to him of scope in order to deploy all the facets of a dense and complex work, bringing together both pictorial and photographic works. This challenge monographic integrates the sources of inspiration and movements to which the artist participates: surrealism, fetishism or even tantrism, like those he precedes – the queer; unpublished archives and testimonies; contemporary affiliations (Cindy Sherman, Luciano Castelli, Bruno Pelassy, Betony Vernon…) and others more historical (Clovis Trouille, Claude Cahun or Hans Bellmer…). This exhibition scheduled from March 31 to September 17, 2023 coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Frac and the creation of the Frac Aquitaine which, since its creation in 1982, inaugurated its collection by acquiring for its first inventory numbers around twenty works by Pierre Molinier. To accompany This major exhibition will feature a book dedicated to Pierre Molinier, a figure both marginal and tutelary. This book will bring together contributions from Marie Canet, who will present the exhibition in the form of a foreword and Claire Jacquet which will take the form of an essay on the posterity of the artist in the field of contemporary art from yesterday to today. The author and co-curator of the exhibition Emmanuelle Debur will return to the history fascinating story of the artist who, forty years after his death, still raises questions. philosopher, author, art critic, Géraldine Gourbe will offer us a rereading Molinier's work by comparing it to the figures of Fantômas and by Irma Vep, before linking it to certain works from the Frac collection Nouvelle-Aquitaine MÉCA through the question of the portrait, so cardinal in the works of the master of exhibitionism, and its evolution over time. The book will include a notebook containing all the titles in the library by Molinier.
