Muddy Dance celebrates movement in a game of football (aka soccer). The
players perform a seemingly choreographed dance on a muddy field,
jumping, twirling and tumbling in their quest to control the ball.
The athletes' normally acrobatic effort is made even more difficult
by the rainy weather and the waterlogged lawn. Erik Kessels has made a book
of football photos for art lovers, which is also an art book for
all football fans. Featuring vintage action photos from famous matches
and muddy, drawn from the archives of football and sport, Kessels demonstrates a
once again he reappropriates vernacular photography.
