Names to be written on a stone
The five texts gathered here tell the story of lives turned upside down by the 20th century.
Grouped together, they make up the fresco of an era; distinct, they give to see
what history can bring forth in courage, beauty and distress. There we
finds Attila Jòzsef (Hungarian poet crossed by the figure of his mother, whose
life and work are an indictment aimed at doing him justice) Benjamin Fondane
(French-speaking Romanian poet, who challenged the Vichy bureaucracy in a
ultimate and immense gesture) Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore (couple of visual artists
who fooled the Nazis on the island of Jersey) Joseph Roth (exiled Austrian novelist
in Paris, whose extent of work is a precipitate of Europe
between the two wars) and Rachel Ertel (survivor of the Shoah, who devoted her life
existence to the translation of Yiddish, a murdered language). These personalities
diverse, which never met, come together in the irresignation which
was theirs before a History that swept everything away in its path. Lucien Guyon
Williams portrays them here with a keen desire not only to
to tell them, but to give them back, since it was necessary, a poignant and
vibrant tribute.
