OMATANDANGOLE
OMATANDANGOLE
Omatandangole is a term in the Oshiwambo language which originated from this
part of Namibia where the photographs were taken between 2016 and 2018.
It refers to a kind of mirage that appears in warm air. The title
reflects a photographic pursuit of illusion rooted in reality. The
desert transforms into an inner landscape where the familiar becomes the unknown.
Even though our environment is chaotic and broken, it is possible to create
photographs that show them as complete and original, so different from
what they really are. And yet - in that brief moment captured by the
camera, is this impression of completeness not true for a moment
fleeting? An elusive happiness that can dissolve as quickly as it is
appeared. The photo series was selected for the Unseen Dummy Award
2018 and received the 2019 Artproof scholarship.
