Mouth, lips, tongue and teeth - speech, pain and screaming - eating, swallowing,
spilling out and spitting - desire and passion: the oral cavity is an area of the
extremely stimulating body, in the literal sense of the word. But science and
Medicine are not the only fields to have studied it. From antiquity to the present
days, art and cultural history have done the same. The Kunstmuseum in
Wolfsburg followed the broad path of the history of this motif in order to present the
first complete exhibition on the mouth in the fall of 2020. The publication
The accompanying book offers thematically dense essays that allow
not only for the reader to delve deeper into the subject, but also
beyond the exhibition itself. The mouth, its inventory and its capacities,
are closely examined through the history of cinema, ethnology, theory
literary and architectural. \n \nThe KUNSTMUSEUM WOLFSBURG collects art
international contemporary since 1994. With the acquisition of key works from
late modernism and significant additions of contemporary art, a collection of
first order was established. At the same time, the museum presents a program
ambitious exhibitions, which establish cultural links for the public.
