  • Philippe Decouflé: a master of movement between dance, cinema and performance Pioneer and leading figure of the French choreographic “new wave” In the 1980s, Philippe Decouflé saw his fame cross borders, on the verge of becoming a world celebrity, distinguished by his eclecticism and a incessant artistic research. His creations, on the border between dance, cinema and live cartoons, give birth to worlds at once fantastic and joyful, constantly evolving. The stage costume, for which Decouflé works closely with renowned designers, is a a full-fledged protagonist of his art, in which fashion and spectacle are linked indissolubly. The exhibition “Planète(s) Decouflé” is accompanied by a richly illustrated book of photographs and drawings, which explores in depth the universe of choreographer while paying tribute to stylists, such as Philippe Guillotel, Laurence Chalou and Jean Malo, who worked with him. The volume opens with the “ABC Decouflé”, guiding the reader step by step through the artist's imaginary worlds, where metamorphosis and irreverence mingle, haute couture and shadow play, rock and sport, in a vocabulary that reflects the breadth of his artistic vision. An essay on the piece Tricodex, as well as unpublished interviews between Decouflé and his favorite stylists, open an irreplaceable perspective on his creative process. Finally, sketches taken from his notebooks and images from his scenographies offer new looks at his work, which has become a point of reference for contemporary dance. Choreographies from the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics d'Albertville (1992) to collaborations with the Cirque du Soleil, the book and the exhibition with which it is associated accompanies us on a journey immersive amidst the thousand facets of this visionary artist. Exhibition at the National Center for Costume and the Stage of Moulins (Allier) from May 25, 2024 to January 5, 2025
