Forty-one titles otherwise

Forty-one titles otherwise is an artist's book which features 41 titles of books by famous writers. The titles are written in sonotranslation or what the Oulipians call " homophonic translation” (Camus’s The Fall becoming Cowardly Hut for example). This form of translation can be practiced from one language to another (Words hours: Gousse, Rames, sonotranslation in 1969 by Luis Van Rooten from the English nursery rhymes Mother Goose's Rhymes) or within the same language (And my pale spider, illogical ogre and tired of Victor Hugo for Aimable, loves to reign in the gray home she has). Each title is written in capital letters, in a character typography literary with serifs and spaced on the page so that the reading progress is visually paced. The titles were chosen based on their potential for transformation into sonotranslation. These are books considered to be "canons" of the literature (The Old Man and the Sea, The Fall, Crime and Punishment, One Hundred Years of Solitude…), with a few exceptions reflecting the artist's tastes for some unique writers and titles (A so-called great thing that we don't David Foster Wallace and The Good Guys Don't Run Flannery O'Connor Streets). The arrangement of titles on a double page was thought out according to the meaning first of these, but also of the meanings generated by the sonotranslation (The Abbé kill leads / Injuring fawn tas nerve). This is a book to be seen as much as to be read, from a perspective referring to concrete poetry as well as Oulipo experiments.
