QUAT Z ARTS - ART CELEBRATION AT THE SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS (1892-1966)
From 1892 to 1966, the annual Quat'Z'Arts parade was an anticipated tradition of
Parisian landscape. An event all the more legendary as the public is not
admitted inside the ball that follows. An artistic-erotic emanation and
humorous work by students of the School of Fine Arts giving birth to
munificent decorations, the construction of the tanks of the different workshops, the
making costumes and accessories, designing posters and cardboards
invitations, some of which are signed by famous artists or those about to become famous.
the future: Mucha, Jules Chéret, Yves Brayer, … The Quat'Z'Arts reflect the
culture of teachers and students through revisited historical themes
: The Battle of Pharsalia, Salammbô, The Delights of Capua, The Triumphal Entry
from Ramses II to Thebes… The collective imagination has retained the image of beauties
naked carried on the shoulders, but more than a libertine celebration of youth
or a modern Saturnalia, the Quat'Z'Arts are the fruit of an academic ideal
aiming to achieve the union of the arts under the leadership of architecture.
