QUEER TATTOO
QUEER TATTOO
• Comprehensive overview of the queer tattoo scene • Including works from 50
international artists • Tattoo art far from the mainstream These
recent years, after receiving a considerable boost from the media
social, a young and dynamic scene has emerged that is dedicated to what is
became known as queer tattooing. This particular community, in
constant growth, was born from a desire to break with hierarchies and
the patriarchal structures of traditional tattoo art. It aims to create
safe, accepting and inclusive spaces where queer, non-binary and
trans people can experiment away from the mainstream and develop their own
styles and techniques. In their work, many tattoo artists free themselves from
destructive, heteronormative, capitalist beauty ideals, creating a
visual language that subverts the long tradition of cultural appropriation that
characterizes the traditional tattoo scene. Their creations reveal a flair
unique creative outlet for queer iconography. This book is the first introduction
complements this vibrant and diverse queer tattoo community. It
presents 50 international tattoo artists with the help of numerous portraits, texts and
series of images.
