What is contemporary art?

It is difficult to conceive of an art that is so closely linked to its present than contemporary art is. Indeed, contemporary art comes from of an unprecedented break with the artistic practices of the past. It seems to take its starting point in a profound amnesia with respect to what preceded it. Traditional aesthetic distinctions, between form and content, autonomy and heteronomy, or work and criticism, are no longer relevant when it comes to of this art. But what is contemporary art? This question could be asked by the historian, the theorist, even the sociologist of art. But she has not has yet been raised as a philosophical question – as a question that seeks to establish the essence of contemporary art. The answer given, in this book, to The said question is twofold. On the one hand, it is positive: in its essence, Contemporary art is the fiction of pure doing. On the other hand, it is negative: contemporary art is the site where it is revealed like nowhere else the political ideology of neoliberal capitalism.
