Sandcastles And Rubbish is the fourth publication by Sybren Vanoverberghe
with the APE and constitutes a continuation of his visual research on the
artifacts and unusual sites. Sandcastles And Rubbish focuses on
the port site and the industrial landscape that surrounds it. \n \nIn his projects
Previously, Vanoverberghe showed stone statues and pillars,
ruins in desolate landscapes or nature in a constant state of
transformation. For "Sandcastles And Rubbish", a change in materiality has
took place, a change in which Vanoverberghe studies the "new" artifacts
of our time. Rusted and folded steel, gravel pits, solid and raw structures
flirt with composition and elegance. Photographic works are
presented alongside artifacts or "found objects." \n \nQuestions are
raised about the value of an object and how that value changes with
time. Vanoverberghes' work is characterized by a constant flow of places
and time.
