SCHAPPI
SCHAPPI
Make no mistake, we are a long way from 30 Million Friends or
stories of Babar the Elephant! Even if the animals want us to believe
that they entered politics to defend the rights of species and the
living well together, nothing has changed. Nobody cares about the fate of the
fish, hyenas are pushed aside, cheetahs continue to attack
ostriches with impunity and snakes end up anyway
eat mice. Only weasels are sad about it. Fortunately,
SCHAPPI, a collection of animal short stories, brings together all these wonderful people in
large full-page illustrations in shimmering colors where each scene is
described by a line of text in the style of children's books. What if Man
seems to be definitively excluded from this animal kingdom, it is aped in its
slightest faults by this humanized fauna which gives us a spectacle
tender and scathing parody of human society, in the style of La Fontaine's Fables
2.0. All deliciously packaged by Anna Haifisch, undisputed queen of
the alternative comic strip, which does not hesitate to give the title to this new book, the
name of a brand of dog food.
