The Mississippi Delta has been called "The Southernmost Place on Earth," a
region of overlapping stories that collide daily. It is a place
that defines America like no other part of the country - a culture tied to
slavery, poverty and political and economic oppression. This is the
land that gave birth to the creative genius of BB King and the murder of
young Emmett Till. Shadows of Emmett Till seeks to probe this complex past by
observing the many ways in which the shadow of Till's murder still looms
on the Delta. This work breathes the air of the delta and seeks to frame the region
and its inhabitants in a 21st century context, at a time when America
Blanche may finally be beginning to accept the sins of her past. In the process of
road, the past spills into the present, with parallels to George
Floyd and so many others.
