Some Watercolors - Since the 1990s, Berlin-based artist Amelie von
Wulffen (born 1966) has created a sophisticated and unique body of work that questions
the historical, economic and social conditions of painting. Very
Self-reflexive, Amelie von Wulffen's practice integrates the artist herself.
It appears frequently in her own work in different forms,
interweaving his family's past with national history and issues
existential on a specifically German cultural heritage. The works of
Von Wulffen deliberately juxtapose aesthetic incongruities and combine
different styles of painting from art history and amateur art.
In this respect, his work reads as a meta-reflection on contradictions
aesthetics of post-war Germany and popular culture and
contemporary politics. This effect is reinforced by the inclusion of references
to decorative arts, furniture and architectural elements.
