Piotrowska presents works with a common interest in protection,
of freedom and oppression. It appropriates the step-by-step approach of
self-defense manuals, but instead of showing two people in contact, it
photographs the (re)actions of a woman in conflict with an unknown subject and
absent. Piotrowska seeks to represent their power in the form of a body
and underlines - via the invisible adversary - the latent pressures to which they
must face. A second series reveals precarious shelters made up of
furniture and blankets located in domestic spaces. In appearance
Sculptural, these temporary shelters resemble the children's game of building
houses at home as if domestic space did not offer a
sufficient protection. The constructions also refer to “houses”
makeshift shelters for the homeless. In a third series, Piotrowska focuses on
cages and similar spaces created for humans. Establishing
parallels between the lives of certain communities and certain animals and
the environment in which they evolve, Piotrowska crystallizes a range of
concerns that drive his work.
