Test Department brings together an accumulation of tests and studies originally made on wood panels by Belgian artist Charline Tyberghein (°1993) since she graduated from the Royal Academy of Antwerp. Offering itself as a kind of library of captivating paint samples, it demonstrates the artist's mastery of trompe-l'oeil techniques and op art effects to trick the viewer's gaze. In Tyberghein's work, highly simplified objects are reduced to symbols and pictograms that are then inflated to achieve maximum but ambiguous readability. Banal objects and universal symbols are claimed by the artist to translate her most personal experiences, transforming them into a new parallel language.
