THE ADVENTURES OF GUILE AND BELINDA AND THE ILLUSION OF AN EVERLASTING SUMMER
THE ADVENTURES OF GUILE AND BELINDA AND THE ILLUSION OF AN EVERLASTING SUMMER
This book presents the return of Alessandra Sanguinetti to rural Argentina
to continue his intimate collaboration with Belinda and Guillermina, two
cousins who, as girls, were the subjects of the first book of his
ongoing series, The Adventures of Guille and Belinda and the meaning
enigmatic of their Dreams. In this second volume, The Illusion of an Eternal Summer,
We follow Guillermina and Belinda from 14 to 24 years old in the negotiation of the
fluid territory between adolescence and young adulthood. Always surrounded by
the animals and rural environments of their childhood, Everlasting Summer depicts the
daily life of the two cousins as they experience love, pregnancy and
motherhood of young people - all this, perhaps inevitably, results in a
ever-increasing independence from their families. Similarly, we can feel
a change in Sanguinetti's relationship with cousins and work
what they do: from childhood island collaborators to three women whose lives
branches out in different directions. Although the passage of time is
One of the most palpable tensions at work in these photographs, An
Everlasting Summer deepens Sanguinetti's exploration of language
universal and timeless theme of female intimacy and friendship.
