THE ADVENTURES OF GUILE AND BELINDA
THE ADVENTURES OF GUILE AND BELINDA
For more than two decades, Alessandra Sanguinetti has photographed the lives of
Guillermina and Belinda, two cousins living in the Argentine countryside, then
as they passed through childhood and youth towards womanhood. This volume,
Originally published in 2010 and reissued today as the first part of a

slide between roles, alternately performing for and being captured
Through Sanguinetti's camera, the deep bond between the two girls is
undeniable. As they approach the precipice of early adolescence, their games are
imbued with the poignant weight of their dreams and desires as the world
game meets reality. By depicting the lives of women and
girls in the traditionally male world of gauchos and farmers
Argentinians, Sanguinetti's book questions the frameworks of mythologies of all
kinds, honoring lives that are usually invisible. The Adventures of Guille and
Belinda is a portrait of rural childhood that is both calm and poetic, in
in which the fantastic and the banal are intimately linked. Alessandra Sanguinetti
