The Truth Is In The Soil
The Truth Is In The Soil
Ioanna Sakellaraki's The Truth is in the Soil is a five-year exploration
of mourning as an elegy to his father and to the tradition of mourning that is dying in
Greece. After his personal loss, Sakellaraki's grieving process is
has become the lens through which she studies collective mourning in the
Greek society, the intersection of ancestral rituals, private trauma and
the passage of time. Inspired by the last communities of mourners of the
Mani Peninsula, Greece, as the deans of a tradition in the process of
disappearance, the work incorporates a new type of subjectivity, intimacy and
critical, exploring mortuary rituals as a way for humans to
adapt to death.
