Design Theories
Design Theories
Design is everywhere. Today it encompasses much more than just
aesthetic embellishment of consumer industry products.
design theories rather thematize the fundamentally "manufactured" character
of our reality and thus open up a field of interdisciplinary research which
goes beyond traditional definitions of design as a practice
artisanal or industrial. This work by Claudia Mareis introduces – starting
of design itself – the main design theories of the 20th century. It
outlines approaches and models that postulate a broader notion of design
and establish interdisciplinary interfaces with the human sciences and
techniques, but also with social issues.
