  • We don't know much about the time that modernist architect Sigurd Lewerentz spent time traveling in Italy. A few boxes of negatives were found among the documents he left at the architectural museum in Stockholm. In these photographs taken in Italy, the places where they were taken are barely recognizable. However, they show the very way Lewerentz's own approach to ancient remains and to concentrate on the details, materials and textures. Trip to Italy gives the viewer the opportunity to better understand the work of the great Swedish architect. \nThe enigmatic framing of the photographs taken in Italy offers few clues on the places he visited, although we can recognize many pictures of Pompeii, in which we can appreciate the fascination of Lewerentz for the Via Dei Sepolcri (street of tombs), the patio houses and the numerous wall paintings. [...] \n \nThe other photographs - including Some are poorly executed, technically speaking - are details with a apparent disregard for framing, thus avoiding key features. Throughout this series, it does not appear that the architect has tried to take "beautiful" photographs. Instead, he sought to record the material, the texture and details of the old works, so that you can take them away at home. These materials, textures and details are found in the magnificent architecture by Sigurd Lewerentz. \n \n
