Walk Me to the Corner is the new graphic novel by Anneli Furmark, one of the
most important voices in Swedish comics. Since his first
book published in 2002, she tells stories centered on the intimate and on
its characters. Walk me to the corner is - as the protagonists say
of history - a sort of "Brokeback Mountain for ladies of a certain age."
The main character of the story is Elise, in her fifties, married for more than
20 years old, whose children have grown up and moved away. She suddenly falls
madly in love with a woman of the same age, Dagmar, also in a relationship, with
who she begins a relationship with. Although their passion is mutual, neither
two women are not ready to leave their family. Complications arise
when Elise's husband falls in love with a young student and divorces her,
while Dagmar refuses to divorce...
Through the story of these two women and Elise's questions, Walk me
to the corner explores with delicacy and empathy what it means to leave the
security of a routine life in your fifties to throw yourself into the unknown.
