Published twice a year by Strandflat, directed by Samuel Etienne, ZINES is
an international academic journal devoted to the study of amateur media and
do-it-yourself of all kinds, from fanzines to webzines, from perzines to zines
scientists, from artzines to poezines, etc. ZINES is multidisciplinary and
open to all scientific disciplines, from social sciences to
medical sciences, art and design, media studies, etc.
The first objective of the journal is to study the involvement of amateurs in the
media production, from print to cybermedia. It also addresses the impact
the production of zines for personal or collective socialization,
especially in closed environments such as prisons or
medical. The second objective is to examine the production of new forms
of communication by amateurs which lead to the publication of media with
a strong DIY ethic, including academics inventing new
forms of dissemination of scientific knowledge.
