Baguenaudes – In the same way as Guerre, his previous work, Baguenaudes explores the limits of classic illustrated works from a graphic point of view, through the juxtaposition in the same story of different techniques such as drawing, engraving, painting and handwritten text.

Marion Jdanoff also continues her work of introspection, this time exploring an equally complex theme: her relationship with intimacy and love, whether physical or otherwise. For her, Baguenaudes is an attempt to extricate herself from the frequent pitfalls that punctuate intimate relationships and the proximity of bodies.

Marion Jdanoff did it first and foremost for herself, because she finds her relationship with physical interaction complicated. She uses drawing and pictorial storytelling as a formidable tool for invention, materializing imaginary worlds and emotions. It suddenly became clear to him that this would be the ideal way to explore this rugged terrain. The exercise is doubly fascinating: what images she creates for herself, and how she creates them.

Baguenaudes is a slightly messy toolbox that she can open to describe her relationship with bodies. His own, others’. An instruction manual and a game box. Her Tinder profile, so to speak.

Why publish such personal research? Good question.

Because she’s not an isolated case. We’re all caught up in complex webs of power relations that reach deep into our bodies. It’s hardly surprising that we encounter difficulties in the same places.

How do you invent your own thing? How and what to talk about Propose and build imaginary worlds, alone, with 2, 3 or 18 people. Know how to share and adjust them.

In short, the first thing to do is to wander around, and the hyper-technical mountaineering will come later. And only if you want to. The idea here was to cobble together a series of re-appropriable tools. Which, for her, is at the heart of the idea of publication. That’s where Baguenaudes comes in.
