Croyances – ART BRUT La collection – The 5th Biennial of Outsider Art offers a new facet of the contents of the Outsider Art Collection. Devoted to the theme of beliefs, it reveals as much the particular link that the authors of Outsider Art have with religion as with the occult sciences.

Several creators illustrate mystical subjects by reinterpreting them or by appropriating religious rites. Others invent a very personal doctrine for their own use and like all-powerful demiurges, they integrate their productions into their new confession, using them as support for prophecies or to ward off bad luck. As for the many spiritualists or inspired mediums who claim to be in touch with the afterlife, they create under the dictation of the deceased, of spirits or supernatural forces and evade the authorship of their works.
Through their diverse and original beliefs, they all transcend in their own way the often difficult conditions of life. The selection of works presents illustrations of deities, saints or religious figures, as well as abstract compositions of great refinement, paintings of a symbolist nature and ritual objects.
