De Chlore et de Rosé

De chlore et de Rosé presents five drunken summers spent on the French Riviera. Images of insouciance and indolence flash by with a strange perfume. Drenched in a blazing sun, the eye wanders between voyeurism and obsession. Everything becomes saturated: colors, sounds, smells. But something’s not right. It’s a perpetual vacation where, despite the horizon as far as the eye can see, you’re suffocating under the weight of anticipation. Just as when you sink into water and the pressure increases, your eardrums bend and eventually rupture. It’s a silent warning of things to come, both personal and on a much larger scale. Time seems to stand still. We’re in that place where the mountains meet the sea suddenly, and snorkelers fall into syncope.

Christopher Barraja is a 25-year-old photographer born in Nice. He left to study architecture in Marseille at the age of 18, but having soaked up the sun a little too long, he decided to change his scenery by continuing his studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. In the capital, he developed his photographic practice following a stroke at the age of 20, which made him more attentive to invisible things and created a discussion with the inanimate objects around him. He went on exchange to New York, where he discovered his fascination with fashion photography. Since then, he has woven a discourse between fashion photography and his personal practice. His work was presented at Villa Noailles this year, as part of the Hyères Festival, where he was one of the finalists. He is the winner of the Grand Prix Picto de la Photographie de Mode 2022, and one of the photographers of his generation whose work deserves to be followed.
