Lilou – Lilou is the nickname given to my autistic older brother Antoine, 34 (…) Like Luc Besson’s heroine in Le Cinquième élémentHe’s an exceptional person, living in a different universe from our own,” confided 27-year-old photographer Lucie Hodiesne Darras when we met her for the first time. For the past five years, the young artist has been composing in true collaboration with her elder brother, Lilou. A sensitive project highlighting a disability that is still too stigmatized.
“It’s in a very positive and humanistic spirit that I’d like to offer a new look at autism, full of hope and optimism, for better inclusion in our society,” the author declares today. And while the protagonist of his story doesn’t speak, write or draw, through his sister’s snapshots he reveals himself with staggering honesty. Always attentive to her brother’s well-being, Lucie Hodiesne Darras builds a poetic monochrome tale to the rhythm of her rituals – necessary appointments in time and space. An object reminiscent of a family album, at the heart of which portraits both rough and delicate follow one another, immersing the reader in her world.
