Diary – Comprising over 120 photographs taken over the past ten years, Masayuki Furukawa’s “Diary” captures life in its quiet moments. In 2012, the year he began his professional career in London, Furukawa began photographing his everyday surroundings as if taking notes in a diary, and as the series grew, so did the scope and diversity of his subjects.
Arranged by color and dominant subject rather than chronological order, the photographs in “Diary” possess a mysterious charm and draw the viewer into Furukawa’s visual world of gentle strength and nostalgic transparency, with fascinating portraits, wide-angle views of lakes and fields, observed moments and urban landscapes. Shot all over the world, this book transcends time and space to highlight Furukawa’s visual experience.
“Initially, what was at the root of the project was not the desire to find something new and fresh. was
not the desire to find something new and special. I simply wanted to photograph what I found beautiful at the time. As I continued to do this for a long time, this feeling gradually changed and I began to photograph things that were changing as much as I was. In a way, it became an integral part of my life”. – excerpt from Masayuki Furukawa’s statement
