Elegy for the Mundane – «Sincerity, vibration, love. “To the easy question of a journalist looking for an introduction, the words with which the editor of Elegy for the Mundane answers perfectly represent the work of Gaël Bonnefon. If we can summarize it, David Fourré, responsible for the Lamaindonne editions, offers here a rather faithful definition of the photographer’s work. It is obvious, we are in front of a sensitive expression, both impulsive and controlled. Whether it be intimate moments, nocturnal fevers, or contemplative peace, Gaël Bonnefon translates without concession a reality that belongs to him.

Who belongs to him? Not quite. In his images, he also translates the wanderings of a generation lost between the promised hope and the uncertain future. This gap, the artist, installed in Toulouse, seized it. Through a technique which, under false airs of chance, affirms his aesthetic independence, he lets transpire the doubts which inhabit his contemporaneity. Coming from the Fine Arts, nourished by the writings and the contemporary art, his references are multiple, they make bridges when he builds his signature. From a cyclic human presence, it comes more and more to territories from which emerges a singular atmosphere. The cross-processing technique that the photographer uses is not for nothing and it translates the vision of a world that is deteriorating.
